The good news is I found instructions on how to switch back to the old Blogger interface, for any one else who needs those instructions go here? It was pretty easy after all once I knew where to look, oh well.
The bad news is that in the NEW interface you cannot turn off or on the Word Verification for comments. WTF??? So at whatever point they force the switch you’re stuck with whatever settings you happen to have set for that. Makes me wonder what ELSE they’re taking away the settings for…..
At any rate the Word Verification for commenting should be turned OFF. If its NOT off please let me know. The new one SUCKS to try to read, I’ve gotten it wrong so many times trying to comment places. So off it goes, and I’ll just have to deal with spam as it happens I guess.
I will be paying for hosting sometime in the next month so I can set up my own blog without this sort of interference. It’ll probly be some time after that before I actually switch, I will at that point attempt to make sure that everyone who has me on their blogroll is alerted to the change as well as leaving a link here in the last post.
This comment did not require word verification.
Good, thank you.
Oh, so that's what's been going on!!! I thought I was losing my mind, not being able to post / get past the word verification. God, Blogger really sucks donkey balls lately. >:(
Looking forward to your new “digs.”
PurpleMagpie (who won't bother to sign in anymore because Blogger always tells me that there is a “problem” with my Open ID. Idiots.)
Sounds about right, it was taking me two or three tries to comment.
Man, yes, 100%. I'm not completely sure, but I am very interested in some other service. Even have a wordpress blog set up, just in case…
I just posted about this very 'feature'.
6 times out of 7, it won't read the correct words!
So, I become frustrated and don't get to comment.
gfa
The fact that they took away the option to disable it on the new interface is what really gets me.
Bluesun, I tried the basic wordpress.com blog setup and didn't care for it, but after talking with some other bloggers that do their own hosting, I'm gonna pay for my own space and try a couple different setups till I find something I can tolerate. I'm at work now so I don't have the link, but Hsoi suggested the host he's using as inexpensive and GOOD, so I'm going to give it a try.
Here's the hosting site I was looking at: http://www.machighway.com/hostingplans.php (dispite the name they do support PCs). They have a “blog” hosting package for $3 a month (less if you pay for a year at a time), which is half (or less) than what most of the other major hosting sites charge.
You could just use a comment moderation system, like Disqus or Intense Debate, which effectively overrides Blogger's comment system.
Erin, at this point the commenting issues are kinda the last straw for me, I have to admit to having control issues, but discovering that in the “new” interface there isn't even an OPTION to turn off the WV just pissed me off even further….
