Covering plants for the winter: bleg

So, I’ve been, slowly, covering the various containers and beds with straw for the winter.  The weather was warm enough that various things were trying to sprout.  Picked up what should be my last needed bale of straw yesterday to finish up.  Of course it was raining by the time I got home, so I didn’t put it out.  It was (I THOUGHT) supposed to be dry all weekend, I’d just finish up then.

So I get up this morning and this is what I found:

With no obvious sign of it stopping and melting any time today.  Maybe tomorrow, but not today.  Sigh.

Do I put down the straw over the snow layer, knowing that it’ll likely melt in the next couple days, or do I wait till it melts (which I do expect it to do) and put it down then?  All the plants do have a base layer on them, I just wanted it deeper and around the sides of some of the deeper container/beds.

Windows updates—-computers suck

Its times like this that make me wonder why I’m still using Windows…

Installed a bunch of updates and rebooted the computer.  Computer comes back on and I get the icon for no wired internet connection.  Lovely.  The updates musta screwed with a setting.  So I turn on the wireless (for research and fun stuff) and start poking around the computer.  Nothing’s working.  I’m gonna be pissed if one of the updates really did break the wired connection……decide to try one more thing, turn off the wireless…..and HEY!!! I still have internet.  So basically, I HAVE wired internet, the computer just won’t admit it even when I’m connected via it.

I hate computers.

edit: Fixed, updated a couple drivers and found something online suggesting that some security software that does link scanning will do it, so I turned all that off (it wasn’t supposed to be on in the first place, that was annoying), rebooted, and presto, the computer admits its got a connection again!

Fair Warning!

Now I just need to figure out where to hang it!

(bleg: the sign didn’t come pre-drilled with screw holes.  Its .040 aluminum, do I need anything special to drill it?  Or am I better off positioning the screws around the sides to hold it in place?)

Trail camera pics

After a couple weeks of nothing but pictures of moving branches at the normal camera locations we re-evaluated where the cameras ought to be.  There were lots of tracks in the yard, but they weren’t coming down the normal trails…

So we moved the cameras, and in the process discovered why Apollo keeps getting pissed in that direction after dark (sorry for the 2011 dates, apparently I forgot to set the year last time I changed the batteries on one of the cameras):

Can someone please explain to me why this f*cking cat is still around?  He killed the Harris’s Sparrow yesterday, I’m voting for the coyotes….

There are definetly deer around though:

And some big guy with these two dogs keeps walking infront of my cameras….I wonder who he is? 😉
