Hey, gas dropped back below $4

Gas prices here have been over the $4 mark for at least a couple weeks now (not hugely over, but enough so that even the “cash price” was over $4).  But the last few days almost all the stations dropped below that mark.   Not that the few cents difference makes that much of a difference in the overall cost.  Its still almost $50 to fill my gas tank every week, and if its one of THOSE weeks its twice a week.  Can I say how much that hurts?

Weather?

Its supposed to snow tonight.   Yes, I know its snowed later in the season than this here in central NY.  But not usually after such mild winters.  And its not supposed to be just a flurry either.  They’re talking over a foot in areas, though we’re more likely to get 6″ or so.   Fricking weather.  Global warming my a$$.

To the driver of the silver Mazda

who was in front of me on the way to work.  I’m sure you didn’t notice how I went from normal spacing to WAY THE FUCK BACK rather suddenly while behind you on the road.  You were to busy messing with your paperwork and punching buttons on your GPS to even pay attention to where you were on the road much less me behind you.  I’d suggest next time paying more attention to your surroundings…

Officer shot a dog, again.

This one’s all over and lots of folks have commented on it.

The short form: An officer responding to a domestic disturbance call pulls his firearm before even seeing a person, except he’s got the wrong address, so when the home-owner and his dog wander out from behind the house the cop shoots the dog.

Ok, I’ve read several blog posts on this, most are disgusted at the shooting of another dog, at a wrong address on top of things.  I did run across one blog, by a cop I believe though I don’t read there often, who kept insisting that the officer has the right to defend himself  from an attacking dog and thats what this is so you all shut up.  Don’t have a link, if you all recognize this let me know and I’ll link, oh, and in case it wasn’t obvious I’m paraphrasing based on my faulty memory, cause I don’t have the link.

First off, the cop pulled his gun LONG before he saw a person on the property, I get that this is a DD call, which can potentially turn violent, but really?  Cops go to all DD calls with their guns drawn??  How are they NOT shooting more innocent bystanders??

Second, the audio from his car video clearly states that he gave the home-owner conflicting instructions:  first “put your hands up” then “get your dog”.  So basically the guy has a fraction of a second to decide which order to get shot for.  Personally I’d have been already grabbing my dog regardless of the “put your hands up” order, but then, considering the size and looks of Apollo I suspect he’d have already been shot before I could react anyway.

Third, everyone defending the cop keeps saying the dog was “running towards him and thats aggressive behavior”.  Except you know what??  ITS NOT.  Any dog, friendly or otherwise, who is allowed loose run on their owners property is going to run towards the “new guy” who just set foot on their property.  There’s two reasons for this, one: the dog wants to get a better “look” at the new guy, and for dogs that means “smell” and two: pretty much every halfway friendly family dog I’ve ever met has been inadvertently trained to “run up to say hi” to the person who just entered the property.  Think I’m nuts?  Think about it, your dog comes running towards you when you get home what do you do?  You pet him, and tell him he’s a good boy and how happy you are to see him.  Bet lots of your friends and family do the same thing.  Presto, you’ve just trained your dog in “aggressive behavior” thats going to get him shot by the cop who accidentally walked on your property cause they have the wrong address.

If you are so afraid of dogs that you’re going to shoot the family pet for running towards you to say “hi” or,  if you are so unfamiliar with canine body language that you cannot distinguish between the family dog running to say “hi” and the aggressive guard dog who’s carefully approaching while trying to warn you off, then you need to give up your badge and gun and go retire somewhere that won’t allow dogs near you.

WP.com, idiots

So, my request for help on their forums (since nothing else was getting a response), finally got a response:

Since we don’t want other people to have your username in the future, we don’t delete usernames (they are kept so they cannot be recycled). For more information, please see
http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
I also see you’ve already deleted your blog(s). I do have a few suggestions for you if you really want to scrub the account:
1) You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2) To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html
3) To learn how to hide your Gravatar profile, please read “How do I hide my profile?” section of the help page:
http://en.gravatar.com/site/faq/#answer-1-8

There’s just one teensy weensy little problem with this.  I HAVE TWO ACCOUNTS WITH THE SAME USER NAME.  If I log into wordpress.com using the ONE username it will randomly log me into which ever of the two accounts it feels like, this is how I found out about the 2nd account in the first place.  So that whole “we don’t delete user names so  they can’t be re-used” is the biggest piece of BS I’ve seen in a while.

Never mind that I never gave them permission to create the 2nd account in the first place.  I sincerly hope this was done WITHOUT the knowledge of their legal folks cause its seriously stupid and less than completely legal…..

Excuse me, how much have you had to drink tonight?

That was the question I didn’t ask tonight.  I considered it though.  Especially when you slowed to a complete stop at a green light, and watched it sit green for at least 30 seconds, while horns blared behind you, then yellow, then red.  And when you then got out of your car to find out why the car behind you was leaning on their horn and proceeded to claim to be “tired”?  Uhuh.  Time to go home and sleep it off, cause I’m on the line with 911 giving them your plate number as a suspected drunk driver, as well as the direction you’re headed in…..

Full Page Ads SUCK

Seriously.  I don’t care what kind of webpage you have, I don’t care how closely related the the ad (or PLEASE JOIN OUR MAILING LIST, or whatnot) is to the subject matter of your page.  I DON’T CARE.  Having my webpage hijacked so you can try to sell something is one of THE MOST ANNOYING thing, especially when I’m in a hurry and just trying to find a reference that I saw yesterday or some such.

Not only am I NOT going to buy whatever it is you just hijacked my page for, you make me want to read your page even less.  FRICKING STOP IT.

And yes, this rant is brought to you by a webpage I normally read quite a bit of that normally has minimal ads, suddenly deciding that a full page hijack is nessecary to sell their new item.  I actually suspect its an April Fools thing, you know what I DON’T CARE, YOU JUST HIJACKED MY SCREEN.

Maybe….

…if I change the emails on both the wordpress.com AND the gravatar site to the hotmail address AND delete the references to the blog it’ll let me post????  I mean, the custom picture is cool and all, but the “ooops you didn’t log in so you’re going to have to re-type your multiparagraph comment” thing just because I forgot to log into a fricking site I’m not even USING is seriously getting on my nerves.
