Yes, I saw the news last night. I happened to be browsing Twitter at about the same time it happened and got to watch people reacting in damn near real time.
No, I’m not going to be sharing links at this point in time. I hold to a 72hr rule in situations like this. Unless it’s accompanied by reasonably clear video I assume it’s rumor/speculation and I ignore it. Official press releases with data specifics are given a bit more leeway, but still taken with a grain of salt. Somewhere between 36-72hrs we’ll start to see actual useful data. Yes, we’ll have to sort between the speculation still, but at least at that point you can actually begin to see something realistic.
Based on the videos I saw last night-what we know for fact at this point in time: Someone took a shot at former President Trump during a live TV event. Trump was injured. At least one person in the crowd was killed. The supposed shooter was killed (I do not consider him a victim).
Be Careful of posts linking to/showing screenshots of the social media of the supposed shooter, I spotted at least 3 different accounts of three different people being shared around last night.
It is most likely that I won’t be sharing much about this at all to be honest. There are plenty of people going to be watching this one, and many of them are far better at analysis than I am.
Stop scaring yourself silly watching the rumors spread, all you’re doing is making yourself more susceptible to additional fear mongering.
Go read some memes and smile. Go hang out with your family, or friends, or duct-tape family of your choice. Or read a good book. Turn off the news for at least a day. Anything remotely true that’s released in the news today will be analyzed to death for weeks, you aren’t missing anything.
(ok, one link. Twitter thread of the major media sources first set headlines in reaction. In case you didn’t already hate major media. Honestly, some of those would make great memes….)
