Ok, its rant night

So yah, I wander through a variety of message forums, on a variety of topics.  Some I stick around for alot of time, others I barely touch on.  My last post was inspired by someone on ONE message board.

This one is about a poster on a different message board….some CHILD (I don’t know the actual age of the person), wanting to know if they should neuter their German Shepherd.  Now normally I’m one of these folks who says that not neutering is better for the dog (and I have studies and research to back that up, unlike “common knowledge” which says you’re a HORRIBLE person if you don’t spay/neuter your animal *eye roll*).  However, I want this dog neutered, and maybe found a new home while I’m at it.

See, the dog already got hit by a car once, which is why they are considering neutering (huh??), but

of course he NEVER leaves the property!!!

So….the truck that hit the dog hit him in the driveway?

Well no, but it was RIGHT in FRONT of the driveway!!! He NEVER leaves the property!!!!

Either the dog was in the road (off the property) or the guy went off the road to hit your dog, you don’t get it both ways.

He DID NOT!!!

So you’ve fenced the yard now so he won’t get hit again right?

HE NEVER LEAVES THE PROPERTY!!!!  And NO we’re not CAGING HIM, we ALWAYS leave him out when we’re not home!!!!

If you leave him out when you’re not home how do you know he never leaves the property?

Cause he DOESN’T!!!!

Omg.  Its dog owners like this that give the rest of us a bad name.  Bets on how many half GSD puppies there are in nearby?

I don’t care if you’re commenting from your phone

SPELL OUT THE WORDS DAMMIT.

Reading a comment or message online from someone who insists in typing like they’re texting: “r u sur?” drives me bonkers.  Yes when I’m texting I’ll often spell that way, but that has more to do with the phone keypad than anything else….I don’t care if you’re commenting from your phone, if its going into general circulation where most people AREN’T then spell like an adult!!

What I did with my day

No, I didn’t spend ALL day swearing at the programmer who created the theme I use, honest.

Instead we went over to my BIL’s, where the entire family, with dogs, had gathered.  Guess Apollo and Arty had as much fun as we did:

Looks like they wore themselves out!

Theme updates….

Appears to be fixed.  Course, my fixes basically meant deleting sections of code, so if something else breaks and you notice please let me know….

Got one error to go away, and fixed the width issues I was having…..FYI  “miniman” and “maximan” are NOT the correct spellings of those words…..

ACK!!

Ok, hopefully this is temporary, I’m currently trying to figure out how to revert to the older version of the theme, and if that doesn’t work I’ll just change themes.  I knew that the theme creater wasn’t English as a first language, but there are BASIC words misspelled in the theme.  Seriously….

Garden update

Edited: Added a link to the gold raspberries.

Pictures later…..sorry

Broccoli is growing well.  The number of new holes in the leaves has dropped dramatically thank you for everyone who made suggestions.  There’s even baby broccoli’s growing on the two biggest!!

Pumpkins have great big leaves, but no vines yet, a few bug holes, but no new ones.

Jalapenos, which I bought as plants not seeds, are huge and budding.

Sweet peppers which I planted from seeds, are not happy.  Not dead, but not growing either *sigh*

Honeydew melons, which I bought plants on a whim a couple weeks ago are growing, but no vines yet.

The various herbs….well, the horehound is doing well, and the peppermint (I think its the peppermint, its hard to tell at this point) appears to be doing ok, the spearmint is only kinda sorta there though….

The berry bushes are all doing ok, with the exception of the golden raspberries which apparently refuse to grow in my soil.  I even bought a new plant with GREEN leaves at the local farm supply and it died within a week of being planted and refuses to grow again.  Everything else, including the pink lemonade blueberries are growing well.  Dispite me having neglected to weed the area….

Rhubarb, well, its not dead, but its not happy either.  I’m keeping an eye out for an older tractor tire to use for a planter for it so I can raise it up a bit like was suggested.

How I amused a security guard

Or, the reason I only got three hours of sleep Monday night.

Monday Husband had been having abdominal cramps and really bad diarrhea all day.  Bad enough that Imodium was barely touching it.  He’d already decided that if he was still feeling that bad Tuesday morning he was going to the doctor, but we never made it that far.

About 9:30pm Monday he walked out of the bathroom to inform me that there was blood in the diarrhea.  Arg.  COULD just be something minor, but it also could be something major.  And of course at 9:30pm there’s nothing open but the ER.  So off we go into Syracuse (neither of us having bothered to look into the little local hospital enough to be comfortable going there except under dire threat of life) to Saint Josephs Hospital.

Now the last time I’d been in their ER it was cramped and dingy as hell.  I knew they’d done a bunch of upgrades, but wow did it look nice.  There was even plenty of seats!  What I didn’t expect was not only did they have improved security, you had to go through a metal detector to get in.  Seriously.  I know ER violence has been increasing, but metal detectors??

Anyway I’d not thought that far ahead, so not only did I still have my pepper spray on my keychain, but also a 15yr old leatherman and a pocket knife in my purse.  After about three trys of emptying my pockets  (and taking out my metal hair clip) I was still buzzing when I went through the detector, when my brain caught up with me and I realized I still had one more knife on me.  This one:

on the chain around my neck.  Oooops.  When I pulled it off the security guy just started laughing and said that was the smallest pocket knife he’d ever seen and to just stuff it in my purse and not stab anyone with it since he’d already sealed up the bag with the other “dangerous items”.  Guess I don’t look dangerous.

By that time Husband had gotten checked in, and even made it through triage and was waiting for me.  Of course blood in your stool isn’t considered immediately life threatening so we sat and waited, and waited.  We finally got called into a room about 11:30, where the nurse drew blood, requested a urine sample and went over the various symptoms again.  And we waited again.  The Doc got to us about 12:45ish, and decided he wanted a CAT scan after doing his exam.  At which point I decided I’d better run home and let out the dogs since I was pretty sure it was going to be another couple hours at least.

Driving home at 1amish is interesting when its an hour or so after your normal bedtime.  Its even more so when a firefly decides to hitch a ride and then sit on the inside of the roof of the car just out of my line of sight and flash away.  It was highly distracting.

Got back to the hospital a little after 2am, I’d collected the various “dangerous items” from security on my way out, and was smart enough to lock them in my car this time instead of bringing them in.  So the metal detectors didn’t yell at me nearly as much this time.  Husband had just gotten back to his room after his CAT scan.

About 3ish the Doc came back in and and informed us it looked like an inflamed colon to him, he was setting up IV antibiotics and pain meds and then we were free to go.  Of course he neglected to tell us that the IV stuff was going to take a 1/2hr to get set up and another almost 2 to administer……by the time we actually left (with prescriptions for more antibiotics and a recommendation to have Husband’s regular doc refer to him to a Gastro specialist) it was turning light outside, and it was full light by the time we got home.

Driving when you’re that sleep deprived is NOT A GOOD THING.  I pretty much crashed as soon as I got in the door.  Slept till almost 9am, when the dogs informed me that they wanted food, and staggered on with my day…..

Husband’s ok, his regular doc thinks it might just be caused by stress, he has been under some lately, but he’s got a referral to a gastro specialist just in case.

Three hours of sleep…..

….does not a good nights rest make.  Especially when the prior 7 hours were spent in the ER.  Post later if the bits and pieces in my brain hang around and still sound interesting after I’ve had more sleep.  I’m tempted to call into work just to see my boss’s face when he realizes that there’s no one else who can do my job, but if I’m not there I won’t be able to see his face…..

For anyone else who likes the Old Time Radio shows (including The Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet), there are TONS of them available on Itunes for free in the Podcasts section.  I was delighted when I ran across them!
