Reading

So, catching up on the GunBlogBlacklist, and ran across Standing Outside Looking In, realized this must be the Stephen that several other bloggers have mentioned in the last few days, and had to shake my head at this post.  I’ve never understood how people can NOT read, for pure pleasure if nothing else.  I don’t care if its the most horrid smutty romance on the shelf, READ dammit.  The only reason my house doesn’t look like the one described is lack of money on my part, and lack of shelves.  Gotta fix that lack of shelves problem….

Google adsense

Some of you may have noticed I had a small Ad thingy on the left hand side of my blog, and that its not there any more.  There are a couple reasons for that, one, in the year I’ve had the blog I’ve earned less than $2 from it, which Google insists it can’t payout because you have to hit a miminum amount before they’re required to send you anything (not that I was surprised at the low payout mind, I didn’t expect much actually, but thought I’d give it a try).  Two, I seem to be constantly fighting with Google over the ads that it shows.  I’ve manually blocked 5 different listings for “Puppies for Sale!!!!” not to mention a bunch of other odds and ends that I don’t want advertised on my blog.  Attempts to change the settings so as not to show any of that in general weren’t successful.

So, no more adsense ads.  Besides its one less thing to try to carry over if I do end up changing platforms….

Girl scout cookies

They’re evil things, I adore them and will happily sit down and eat an entire box of Samoas (or whatever they call them now) in one sitting, so I have to ration myself. If you’re like me and don’t have one in the neighbor hood to buy from you have to go looking. Last year I found this little online app that’ll help you locate your local Girl Scouts table setup!

Breeder or Rescue

Labrat just did an awesome post on how to pick a breeder should you decide you want a purebred pup.  She did a better job than I did a while back so go read.  The comments kinda devolved into a discussion of rescue vs breeder though.  And in general I’d agree, going through a rescue to get your new pet is an awesome idea.

However there are some issues.  Some rescues are great, some are less than forth-coming about the dogs in question, and then there’s the growing trend to deny the adoption due to some random factor in the household.  We ran into this when we were looking to get a 2nd dog.  Apollo’s intact, and will be till he’s at least two.  We were looking for a young (1 to 3yr old) spayed female.  Several places wouldn’t even talk to me after they discovered he was intact.  Period.  No discussion of the whys, or anything.  There were a couple who didn’t QUITE shut up at that news, but the fact that our entire property isn’t fenced was the excuse they used (we have a fenced area, but not the whole two acres).  I’ve had other people tell me the same thing, very random things used to disqualify the family from getting a pet.  Interestingly enough I ran across an article today on the same subject.  At least none of the rescue’s I talked to asked how many steps to the front door we had…..

Edited: we did finally find two that were willing to work with us, and in the end ended up with a puppy from neither since by the time I found them we’d already started the process with the Singer group.

Google??

Go here to see how closely Google’s been paying attention to your browsing habits.

At first glance they didn’t do to badly, they somehow missed the gunblogs I read, but otherwise not to bad….hey, wtf??

*double checks blog profile*checks drivers license*  nope, not male, still in my 30’s.  Are my browsing habits that odd??
