I’m so glad Apollo LIKES kids…..

….cause otherwise I’d have had a really horrid (last) Friday afternoon instead of a less than great one.  And it would have been totally my fault for not paying attention.

He really does like kids too, he gets upset if they’re yelling and screeching (those guardian instincts kicking in, he thinks they’re in danger), but he honestly LIKES kids.

Friday afternoon was a slightly rushed trip to the vet after it occurred to me that morning that the oddball symptoms I’d been seeing for the last couple days were probably the result of him having a UTI.  In my rush to get out to door, catch a urine sample to bring, and make sure I had everything I forgot to grab the credit card to pay for the visit with.  I’m not normally that scatterbrained, but it was Friday, and I was tired.  I realized about halfway through talking to the vet that I’d left the card at home.  Dammit.  So I get to the counter, and explain to the lady that I was an idiot, but I had $60 in my purse I could give her now and I could call her when I got home with the credit card number?  (Or alternatively I could leave Apollo with them as hostage while I ran home for the card, I was informed that option was really tempting, but I might not get him back in that case)  She said that was fine.  During all this Apollo is doing his absolute best to drag me out the door so he could go pee (again, typical UTI symptom).  While we’re talking a mom & son move up to the desk on the other side of me.  They were polite, they didn’t approach my dog, and stayed on the far side of me from him, so I basically ignored them as I apologized to the lady at the desk.

As she hands me the paperwork, and the receipt for the cash I gave her, I realize that Apollo is no longer attempting to drag me out the door.  I turn around and instead of attempting to open the door himself Apollo is sitting on the feet of the boy (who was MAX 10yrs old, and probably younger), leaning up against the kid, all the while stretching up to try to lick his chin without breaking his sit.  All the while with the biggest doggy grin on his face.  The kid in turn has his arms wrapped around Apollo’s neck, hands buried in his ruff, and is asking his mother “can we get a dog like THIS??”

I had to laugh at my goofball puppy, I really did, but inside I had to shake a bit, best I can tell Apollo approached the kid rather than the other way around, but still.  Thank god he LIKES kids!

(his UTI is responding to the antibiotic and it looks like he’s going to be fine)

I missed that fact

So like most of you I was less than thrilled when the media announced that an American citizen had been targeted by drones and killed, without the benefit of a trial.  I didn’t bother to blog about it because I try to stay away from blogging politics, and besides, everyone else said it better than I could.

Then today I was catching up over and Pophat, and was reminded of a specific fact:  Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize way back when he took office.  Remember that?  Now share with me the irony of a Nobel Peace Laureate who gave the ok (there are varying accounts as to how much more than “ok” he had in the decision) to target a drone at an American citizen who hadn’t been judged guilty by a court of his peers.

Unofficial list of demands

Original here.

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending “Freetrade” by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.
Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.
Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
Demand four: Free college education.
Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.
Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.
Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America’s nuclear power plants.
Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.
Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.
Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.
Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the “Books.” World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the “Books.” And I don’t mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.
Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.
Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.
These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy.

Now there is an Admin note on them stating:

Admin note: This is not an official list of demands. This is a forum post submitted by a single user and hyped by irresponsible news/commentary agencies like Fox News and Mises.org. This content was not published by the OccupyWallSt.org collective, nor was it ever proposed or agreed to on a consensus basis with the NYC General Assembly. There is NO official list of demands.

But honestly, that doesn’t help.  There is so much WRONG with that list of demands, official or not, and it was apparently posted by a OWS protestor who thinks that THIS will solve ALL their problems.  Are you really that stupid??  And to top it off several of them QUIT THEIR JOBS to come protest.  They even proudly admit it in video!  Maybe they weren’t the greatest jobs ever, but it was a job.  It helped pay the bills.  How in hell is quitting to come protest about lack of jobs a good idea??  Well except for the part where now there’s a job opening for someone who’ll actually work….

Now I’ll admit that I’m really not happy about the “bailouts” and I’d love to see some of those over priced CEO’s salaries get cut in half, or further, but how in heck is protesting going to solve those problems??

Oh, and yes, I can believe that some police are being over-zealous in pursuit of their duties.  No its not right, but it happens pretty much any time there’s an event even half this big.  Get over it.  You’re not that special.

Apollo just weighed in

at 90lbs even.  At 9.5 months thats about where he should be no problems.  One of his litter mates seriously won the genetic lottery though….Aslan just weighed in at 129lbs and measured a shoulder height of 30″.  Thats one big dog, and he’s not done growing yet!

Stretching the truth

Over at MArooned Jay points out yet another instance of the truth being stretched by the president.  So of course I have to read the article.  You know what I think pisses me off the most?  Not only did the president stretch the truth (and not just a little bit either), but the guy he’s talking about is OK WITH IT.

Baroz, who supports Obama and his efforts to restore the public sector, told the Herald yesterday he doesn’t mind if the president — or his speechwriters — took some liberties with the facts. It was all in aid of a higher truth, he said.
“People who want to fuss over the word choice are missing the point. It’s about our investing in education and in communities,” Baroz said. “It was technically correct; yes, I did lose my position three times within four years in the Boston Public Schools. To me, the question he posed to the people was a rhetorical question. The emphasis was on ‘like Robert.’ It’s people who are like me, highly qualified, and are not working. That’s the spirit of it.”

No actually thats not the spirit of it.  Of all the unemployed folks currently trying to find jobs, of all the underemployed folks who took a minimum wage (or not much better) paying job, resulting in a signifigant paycut, so that they could at least put food on the table once their benefits ran out, the president couldn’t find a single one to use as an example and instead had to use a false example and stretch the truth out even further to make it fit??

Really??

A discovery about my puppy

Last night, Husband and I were watching Mythbusters, when Apollo asked to go out.  Not unusual.  Paused the show (LOVE my DVR), took him out, and when we came back in he bounced up onto the couch, plopped his butt into Husband’s lap, and flopped.  Husband leaned over to cuddle the big puppy in his lap, and I grabbed my phone to take a picture of the cute scene.

None of which is usual.  But then I looked at the photo…..and discovered the horrifiying truth about my puppy….

Click to go below the fold to find out what!

My Puppy’s an evil robot!!!

I promise the only photoshop involved was to black out Husband’s face.  Cool huh?
