Well, Apollo’s thrilled…..

Two weeks ago we had grass that was turning green, and crocus blooming, and the rest of the spring bulbs working on sprouting.  No snow, and even temps up into the 60s.

Now, there’s several inches of snow on the ground.  Its not stopped, not really, for the last week.  The only reason we’re not up to feet of snow again is because the day time temps keep getting just enough above freezing to melt large percentages of it.

*sigh* I want spring!!!!!  *sniffle*

Either you know, or you don’t know….

Had to ignore the news yesterday after getting pissed enough to yell at the TV.

“Local” shooting, at least two killed, two wounded (those numbers have changed since), news conference with the Gov and other high and mighties to tell us all how horrible it is (like we didn’t already know).  One guy (I didn’t catch name or title) steps up to the mic to tell us about the victims.  Victims IDs not given here since they don’t need to be related to this rant in a search…..

“Joe Blow, who we believe was in his 40’s or 50’s and who we believe was a 5 yr veteran of such and so service, and Joe Random who we believe  was in his 40’s or 50’s and who we believe worked for X company…..”

And about that point I started yelling at the idiot standing infront of the mic that there should be no “we believe” when it comes to listing the victims.  Either you KNOW who these people are, how old they are and where they worked.  Or you do NOT know, and in that case you shouldn’t be announcing ANY of it!!!!  Idiot!!

Homemade mustard

So, I decided to try making homemade mustard.  It started out as a random thing, I ran across a recipe for a Dijon mustard and started asking hubby about the mustard he eats.  Cause I don’t care for it.  Now he usually eats Spicy Brown, but remembered seeing a Good Eats episode where Alton made a mustard recipe that he thought sounded good.  So I dug out the recipe.

And then the modifications began.  Hubby DOES NOT LIKE sweet pickles, so he asked me to find a substitute for that.  Well, someone in the recipe comments had used white wine vinegar, so I said sure.  Then I got started and discovered I was out of apple cider vinegar.  A google search said that red wine vinegar was an acceptable substitute just not as sweet.  So ok.

In the end I followed Alton’s recipe except for swapping out those two items (I did not add any extra sugar).  Hubby says its damn close to spicy brown and he loves it.  I guess I’m making mustard!  It turned out really easy to do, and not really time consuming, so I don’t mind.

(several of the commenters/reviewers complained about it being to liquid, but as another commenter pointed out you just keep heating it till its reduced to the consistancy you want, though I may try reducing the liquid just a bit next time)

Lawsuit filed against SAFE act (Or, don’t get your hopes up folks)

Link one

Link two

Now I’m delighted to see this, BUT, unlike a certain someone (*cough*TTAG*cough*) I don’t assume that “OMG the JUDGE said there would be an INJUNCTION!!!” means that “the judge thinks the SAFE act is unconstitutional!!!!”.

Infact one article states:

After hearing motions in that case, state Supreme Court Justice Diane Devlin has ordered the state, represented by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, to show cause before oral arguments on April 25 or face an injunction. An order to show cause is not unusual in these cases, however. In fact it’s standard procedure, said Devlin’s law clerk, Timothy Kane.

These proceedings are always commenced by an order to show cause,” Kane said, adding that the state has indicated it plans to respond by mid-March.

Emphasis mine.

So yah.  Am I thrilled to see it taken to court?  Sure.  Am I getting all excited cause “OMG, WE’RE WINNING!!!!!”?   Nope.  Keep plugging away folks, we got a lot more work to do…..

Aren’t computers wonderfull?

My domain name and account with Machighway were set to expire as of tomorrow (3/1/2013).

I’d set it up to auto renew.

About a month ago Machighway sent me a notice about time to renew….so I checked and confirmed that I was on auto renew, and then sent in a ticked asking why I was getting an bill when I was set to auto renew.  They said it was normal, and that yes, its set to auto renew.

This morning the site was fine.  An hour ago I went to log in to do up a post…..and I get a “domain name has expired as of 3/1/2013 Click here to renew!!!”  and I said WTF?

Called MacHighway, the nice guy who answered the phone said “but you don’t expire till tomorrow” and I said “yup, and the re-direct even says that, but its still today….” so he forced through the payment a day early and reset it……gotta love it when computers do their own thing!
