Diamond recalls yet MORE dog food

This time its Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Lamb and Rice.

The recall includes Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Dog Lamb and Rice Formula with the following bag codes and “Best Before” dates:

  • Bag Code DSL0801 26-Aug-2012
  • Bag Code DSL0801 26-Aug-2012
  • Bag Code DSL0801 27-Sept-2012
  • Bag Code DSL0801 18-Oct- 2012
  • Bag Code DSL0801 Samples

I’m starting to wonder about Diamond’s record keeping.  Surely it shouldn’t be THAT hard to figure out WHAT was made during the time period in question and just recall it.  Whats even worse is they keep changing the recall information on the previously recalled brands.  Every time I turn around the numbers that could be in the recall are larger and larger.

Two cats dead after eating recalled kibble

Article here.

I know alot of folks, including the media, keep saying it “can’t be THAT bad, no animals got sick”, but its not that simple.  The problem is IDing the cause of the animal sickness.  Dog or cat gets diarrhea and vomiting and they’re given an antibiotic and fluids and sent home (trust me, I recently had to deal with it).  They might test for Parvo, but salmonella just doesn’t enter the thought process untill WAY down the treatment process unless there IS a current recall.  I highly suspect that if a survey of vets offices could be done, for cats and dogs treated for diarrhea/vomiting in the last 3 months, and then further survey to find out how many of said animals were being fed (or had in the home) kibbles on the recall list,  that the percentage would be pretty high.  And that doesn’t include the animals with mild cases who never saw a vet.  Of course since the affected animal was never tested for salmonella at the time of the sickness you can’t PROVE anything……

For everyone who read my post…

….on why I hate people some days, and then followed the link to find out why.

The Homeless Parrot has an update for all concerned.

Lastly, to all that were concerned about the man that stabbed the puppy, he was arrested on the spot. He was already on his way to jail when I saw the dog, so thankfully, I didn’t have to deal with that aspect of it. North Carolina has Susie’s Law so hopefully this non-human will suffer consequences for what he did. I also hope that his daughter is taken away from him. If I get any further information, I’ll let y’all know what happened.

The bugs in the garden: Bleg

My poor broccoli.  All the leaves have been chewed on, and several are half gone.  So far the bugs haven’t touched anything else but I assume its just a matter of time.  And no, I’ve not caught sight of the bug in question.

I don’t really want to use outright pesticides, but if I have to I will.

I have DE, and if the weather would stop raining on us every day I’ll get out there and dust everything including the garden with it (it helps with the ticks and the like, but things have to dry out at least a bit before it’ll do any good).

I don’t mind having to wash things before we eat, but we do like raw broccoli and peppers  so it would be nice if we didn’t have to use an outright pesticide on it….Any ideas or suggestions??

I know I tend towards being an introvert, but….

….do you really have to have a party every weekend, and occasional weekdays?

The folks across the street (the ones who’s dogs I’ve called animal control on twice, dog count is now 3 btw, since, you know, they were controlling their original two ever so well), have had a party pretty much every weekend since the weather turned nice, and are having ANOTHER one today.  I know they have 4 kids but really?

Now if it was a couple cars of people enjoying the grill and playing with the dogs I’d probly not even notice (well, till Apollo alerted to them slamming their car doors anyway).  But no, we’re talking 6 or so cars in the driveway and at least that many parked on the side of the street, street’s not THAT wide, and the stereo cranked so that I can hear the lyrics clearly 100+ feet away inside my house with all my windows closed and my TV on……Why yes, I’m annoyed, how could you tell?

Ow

Yesterday afternoon I took the dogs out to the run and opened up the attached shed for shade for them and a place to sit out of the sun for me.  I then stepped back out of the shed (to go get my ipad to read on).  The step down is taller than standard, and I was taking it on the move.  My left food hit the ground and rolled so I hit the ground on the outside of my foot with all my (not inconsiderable) weight.

I had to stand still for a couple minutes before enough of the pain subsided that I could stand it.  And subsided it did, I could walk on it quickly enough, and it never really did swell up, but this morning the outside of my foot, my ankle, calf and knee all hurt.  And still hurt.  Its more stiff hurt than “tore something” hurt.  But its definetly put a hitch in my walk….
