New Camera!

About 3 weeks ago now I grabbed my camera to snap a photo…..and it rattled.  When I attempted to take the photo it turned on, but locked up when I pressed the button.  After trying new batteries, and opening up every easily accessable compartment I admited defeat and sent it off for an estimate for repair.  Pentax being kind enough to offer free estimates on the repair of most of their current model cameras.

Turned out the motherboard had come loose, and unfortunetly since my camera is 7yrs discontinued that part is no longer availible.

So as much as I’d not really wanted to spend several hundred dollars on a new camera I have to admit to being delighted to have an excuse to buy a new camera with all the extra features that I’d been drooling over….

I ended up with the Pentax K-5.  Technically also a discontinued model, but that just keeps the price down.  Its a much higher end camera than my old one, and I’ve been having fun playing around with it.

Uhoh

The other day I pulled this picture off one of the trail cameras:

Hubby and I looked at each other, and both agreed that that seems awfully early…..either he’s going to have a big rack, or we’re going to have a bad winter……

Then yesterday while brushing down Apollo I noticed that he’s already growing back in his undercoat……..and he’s not the only one, every Tibetan Mastiff owner I’ve talked to has said the same, the dogs had a long extended shed, and now, before they’re even done shedding, they’re growing back in their winter fluff……

This does not give me warm fuzzies for the coming winter…..

How to exercise your bird of prey

Ok, yes, this is a promo video.  And yes, I’m fairly certain that at least a few of the shots of the bike and rider (without the bird) were filmed seperately since in at least a couple he’s not wearing the backpack or the helmet cam.  But its still way cool to watch!

Trail camera pics

Been a while since I posted off the trail camera

I think this next doe is the same one as in the previous night shot, though I can’t swear to it.  She’s got a full teat but there’s no sign of baby in any of this.  Hope that means she’s got her baby stashed somewhere safe rather than that she lost it.

Rain Rain Go Away…..

….I’m sure there’s areas of the country that need this rain, but we sure don’t!  Sunday we didn’t actually get any rain during the day, but things were still way to wet to do any mowing or similer work.  And of course it rained again on Monday, and Tuesday, and there’s a 20% chance of rain today, and it’s going to rain on Thursday…..

I mean sure, its nice to not have to worry about watering the garden, but I’m starting to worry about the garden drowning!  I pulled the plugs from the garden containers last week so they’d not fill up and drown everything.  But the corn and sunflowers are planted in the ground, and they’re VERY WET……

More and more reports of trees going over, and the winds haven’t been that bad either…..

It was the power supply

Which is the good news.

The bad news is that the install took and wiped everything.  Yes I had fairly recent backups of the important stuff, but I’m still finding all sorts of odds and ends I’d not updated the backups off, like my internet bookmarks.  Annoying, and I have to re-install everything, really annoying.

The 2nd piece of bad news is that apparently my Windows 7 disks and product code were only supposed to be used for UPGRADES, not for clean installs.  The fact that there was an option in the boot menu for the disk for a clean install, with no warning about needing to purchase a new product code is apparently immaterial to Microsoft.  As is the fact that not one of the other options was working at the time.

This was bad news all right.  But for the Microsoft tech-support idiot not me.  I don’t think I’ve lost my temper like that in a LOOOONG time…..

No, I didn’t pay for a new product code.

Yes, my computer is up and running and fully legal.

I don’t normally advocate screaming at the idiot doing phone support (I’ve been there, its not their fault their company is stupid), but in this case it solved the problem…..

Anyway, I know the blog-header is screwed up, I’ll be fixing it shortly……

Computers suck

My desktop has tried to commit suicide.  We’re currently waiting on an ordered power supply in hopes that thats the problem.  Otherwise we’re likely looking at getting a new computer and hoping that a professional can extract my files from the hard drive.  So posting will be even more slow than usual till thats figured out.  I CAN post from my ipad, but its a pain….

Weather’s been hot and nasty the last few days, temps in the 80’s, humid, with thunderstorms.  Course, tomorrow (Friday) the predicted high is 55……
